Hi,
I was just doing some background reading about East Goscote in Leicestershire the other day and stumbled over a wiki and local pages which says there was an extensive tunnel system there during WW2 for ammunition storage and the similar ordnance. I just wonder if anyone knew any more about it... according to the article the 'plans' which showed the tunnel layout have been 'mislaid' deliberately.

Seeing as this tunnels on my doorstep im here quite alot to walk the dogs or if i just want abit of piece and quiet. Anyway after many visits and taking photos through the gates, i noticed someone had kindly cut through a couple of the slats on the gate....perfect opportunity to grab some pics inside.

So i'm a member of afew railway groups on facebook and this tunnel popped up in conversation afew times so jumped in the car with my partner in crime and the dogs and drove 90mins to go have a look. Still good to find a tunnel that you can get into, even if someone else has smashed a hole into the block wall! Gonna take my stupid laptop an age to post all 120odd photos we took so i'll limit it to afew of the good ones for now....

Enjoy.

The longest tunnel nearest to home and after looking on forgotten relics and seeing it was open decided to take a drive up the A1 to explore it. Unfortunately when we found the portal next to the barnsdale bar services, we realised the photos online were out of date and the portal was now clad with big metal doors and evil spikey bars on top so no chance of climbing over or under. Anyway heres the few pics i took that day.

The Royal Marine Barracks, Chatham was a military installation occupied by the Royal Marines and located at the Gun Wharf at Chatham in Kent. The barracks were situated immediately to the south of the Dockyard, just above the Ordnance Wharf.

The Royal Marine Barracks were completed and first occupied by the Royal Marines in September 1779. By February 1894 a total of 7 officers and 1,049 non-commissioned officers and men were quartered in the barracks. The Melville Hospital for...

Hello 28DL!

I've been a long-time lurker, but this is the first time I've done anything worth posting.

Severn Bridge station was on the eastern edge of the former railway bridge across the River Severn; its other end was at Sharpness. Originally opened in the 1870s, the bridge was damaged in 1960 when a couple of barges collided with one of the columns and was eventually demolished by the end of the 60s. The station was pretty much left to rot and is now used by a farmer. Lydney tunnel is...

History

During WW2 a British resistance unit was created, named the 'Auxiliary Patrol'. These were a sort of top secret elite Home Guard that were given the most modern weapons and equipment. Each member of the 'Auxiliary Patrol' were taken from the Home Guard, Vetted and made to sign the official secrets act. This highly secret unit had there own underground hideout for in the event that Britain was invaded.

Each hideout was fitted with bunk beds and could sleep up to 8 people....

Hello all,

Took a trip up to Usk yesterday to have a look at the tunnel and station. The Coleford Monmouth Usk and Pontypool railway was built in 1856, "with the principle aim of carrying iron ore from the Forest of Dean to furnaces near Nantyglo (at the head of the valleys, near Ebbw Vale)."

There were few passengers, and the line closed in 1955.

This ones been long in the planning, but eventually at some ungodly hour of the morning me and Brewtal managed to get inside and see the place for ourselves. It was a pretty brief visit by all accounts, but we managed to see most of the lower level.

History

Built as part of the now demolished Melville Barracks in Chatham. This deep shelter was a refuge for the marines at the barracks. The history is pretty vague, but I believe the tunnels existed before the start of WW2.

In the...

Last night / this morning, myself and a friend went along and tried to get in. We knew the entrance location and waited for the area to quieten down.

Once it had, we tried to gain entry and the entrance has been welded shut on the edges on certain points. We tried and tried and tried but simply couldn't get in. We spoke to another person who has made several trips down there and he said he knew someone who got in the night before (night of the 02/07 / early hours of the 03/07).

We...

Hi there, last Friday me and my mate visited the catacombs under the rock cemetery in Nottingham. They are barred shut but we managed to find a way in and explore them. Unfortunately after a morning expecting a substantial cave system we were left feeling a little disappointed when we found that the caves were all blocked off. Basically you come out at a junction with five different pathways off but each of these different routes are blocked, as shown in the map below.

It was a rather...

With this explore I decided to explore the railway tunnel as most people do but as there are 5 ventilation shafts I decided to try and follows these above ground and follow the route of the tunnel back through the Haddon Hall Estate.

HISTORY
In 1850's Midland Railway company were try to establish a permanent way between Derby and Manchester. The earl of Devonshire would not let the railway cross his Chatsworth estate, but the Earl of Rutland who owned the Haddon Hall Estate...

I visited this place in 2014, so a while ago now... hence why the pictures are how they are:banghead. After an epic road trip up north, we returned to our hometown and had an opportunity for something we had been working on for a while. Exhausted from lack of sleep and driving many miles, we were not going to miss this window of opportunity and visited the place before it was no longer doable.

Really not sure on the history of the place, possibly built as wine vaults? Unable to...

First report here but working through a backlog!

History:

Firth Brown Steels was initially formed in 1902, when Sheffield steelmakers John Brown and Company exchanged shares and came to a working agreement with neighbouring company Thomas Firth & Sons. In 1908 the two companies came together and established the Brown Firth Research Laboratories and it was here, in 1912, under the leadership of Harry Brearley they developed high chrome stainless steel. The companies continued under their...

I've always wanted to visit this site ever since reading about it on subbrit and seeing a handful of photos from when it was still in use, to my knowledge it's the only surviving local government fallout shelter near me and being right under the council offices I never thought I'd get to have a look round it. But then as luck would have it I read a comment on a youtube vid sayinng the building above was empty and being redeveloped. Not wanting to waste what could be my only chance I grabbed...

Upper Hale Underground Reservoirs, Aldershot Garrison, Surrey – April 2017

Continuing on from Flexlands, Southside, my friend and myself visited this site. I don’t really do underground, but I quite liked it here and I think it lit up quite well.

History
These Reservoirs are South of an area known as “Caesars Camp”; which was then; a major water catchment area for Aldershot Camp which had its own water supply from Aldershot Town

There are a number of uncovered...

Visited with Kevin Arnold.

We've been working on Greenwich hidden underground stuff for a long time, spent countless hours searching internet websites, looking for the pictures of anything which would give us a clue how to first find the hidden gems, then maybe access them. Well everyone knows that there is something there, underground, but at the same time there is hardly any images online. We kept coming back and every single visit was getting us closer and closer to what we finally...
