My second tunnel from the ‘South Devon and Launceston Railway’.
Opened in 1859 the tunnel is 341 metres (374yrds) long and takes the old line under the town of Grenofen, 2 miles east of Tavistock.
The line closed in 1962 and almost all of the tunnels and viaducts became unused, aside from the few that have now been reopened as cycle tracks or footpaths.
There seem to be plans afoot to re-open the Tunnel as a cycle track - or so the many surveying marks would...
